Ever get in the mood? You know, the one where all you want is just a bite of this and maybe a nibble of that? A cookie, a chip, a handful of crackers…and before you know it, you’ve polished off a 500 calorie meal?! Well, stop it, already.
I’ve found the perfect solution to the snacking crisis. They’re nutty, crunchy, super satisfying- and get this: they’re one of the healthiest foods around. Yup, I’m talking about raw sprouts. Dense with enzymes, fiber and Vitamin C, sprouts are the perfect solution to that nibbly snacking mood we can’t quite shake…
Don’t give me that look. A city girl’s gotta keep her shape, doesn’t she? Besides, I’d never suggest anything I didn’t like. I recently swung by my go-to health shop,
Westerly Natural Market, to pick up a container. For only two bucks, these certified organic “Crunchy Sprouts” by
Sproutman are a budget-savvy treat that won’t send you to bloatsville.
They vaguely remind me of soy nuts, only crunchy like water chestnuts. The flavor is dependent upon the sprout, and some, like mustard sprouts, can even pack a spicy kick. The box I picked up is a mix of young lentils, green peas, and azuki beans. The peas and lentils are mild and nutty, while the azuki beans are sort of creamy like chickpeas. I really enjoy the flavor and find them oddly addicting. Only, unlike chips and chocolates, I don’t feel like a whale after gobbling them all up.
