Sweet Red Bean Buns At Ginger House 04/28/2010
When: Yesterday’s Happy Hour. Hoo-ah! Where: Ginger House (7th ave between 28th & 29th) Oh, Americanized Chinese food: How greasy, salty and fantastically satisfying you are. While I generally try to avoid these establishments at all costs, the $4 cost of a drink during Ginger House’s Happy Hour was good enough reason throw my hands up and stop on in. I don’t know if it's the $4 Pinot talking, but the food was absolutely delicious. My friends ordered some veggie fried rice, which was full of flavor and just the right amount of greasy goodness. Hankering for some Dim Sum, I went for the super savvy sweet red bean buns ($3). The light-as-air bun encompassed a generous filling of red bean paste, a very common component of Asian desserts. The paste itself was subtly sweet and jelly-like, and texturally, it worked wonderfully with the cake-like bun. I’m pretty sure this place single-handedly restored my faith in Chinese food in Manhattan... er... or at least Chelsea. Chinatown, here I come! Comments05/03/2010 4:01pm
Ohh those buns look good - I don't think it's just the Pinot :) but then I love steamed buns a LOT. 05/10/2010 7:41pm
